Sports at Taney
The afterschool sports programme which takes place at Taney Parish Primary School includes hockey, soccer, and summer sports for all boys and girls, run primarily by parent volunteers. There are numerous roles which can be assumed or shared – from help with coordinating coaches, managing teams, transporting equipment to training, and organising match fixtures to washing kits.
Our numbers show that nearly all children enjoy one or more of these sports while at the school, but it is entirely a team effort and without parent volunteers these activities simply cannot happen. No previous experience is required and it is a superb way of getting involved and giving something back.
It is important to note that if your child is participating in sports, you (or another designated adult) should be present for the entire session while it is taking place. Coaches cannot take children to the toilet for child protection reasons and you or the designated adult must be available in case your child becomes upset, hurt or injured.
Sports Committee & Registration
A Sports Committee is appointed on a rolling basis to coordinate all of the volunteers and to oversee the running of the various sports. The positions include a Chairperson, Treasurer and Coordinators, all of whom usually serve a two-year term.
Registration for all sports is on during the second week of September with the sessions kicking off the following week. (The relevant volunteer and registration forms are available in Form Downloads.)
You will find more details about the dates, times and locations of the individual sports through the section links and we will provide regular updates on team progress via the homepage news.
Code of Ethics
We are all aware of the merits of sport for children in terms of learning new skills, increasing confidence, having fun, and making friends. In prioritising their safety and enjoyment while promoting good practice in children’s sport, we would like to draw your attention to our Sports Code of Ethics which has been adapted from the Irish Sports Council’s Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children’s Sport in Ireland.
Finally, we look forward to lots of sporting fun and continued team successes at Taney Parish Primary School. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to help out or if you have any questions.
