End of Season Soccer News

This year we have enjoyed a wonderful soccer season, with Junior Soccer for both boys and girls, along with Senior Boys Soccer and Senior Girls Soccer.  We appreciate all the work that goes on behind the scenes by the Sports Committee and teachers to allow these three extra curricular activities take place and to all the parents for the help and input.

Junior Soccer:  With over 100 children taking part, this afterschool activity proves very popular every year.  The children were delighted to resume Junior Soccer after the Easter break and have had a lot of fun in Marlay park on a weekly basis.

Senior Girls Soccer:  The Senior Girls Soccer Team had another great term. They got through their group to the quarter final of the FAI Girls Dublin League but were defeated in Malahide by St. Oliver John Plunkett’s School in a close match.  Two girls teams took part in the 8-a-side Camel Cup tournament in a series of competitive matches with the A Team coming home with the trophy, which was a brilliant achievement.  They have all bonded as a team with great spirit, sense of fun, commitment, hard work as well as notable soccer skills, and have really progressed under the guidance of their fantastic coaches Ken and Conor.  Their 6th class friends will be missed as they move on to new teams and experiences but we wish them every success in their next steps.  We  will always have fantastic memories of Taney Girls Soccer Team  2019!

Senior Boys Soccer:  Our Senior Soccer has come to an end, approximately 57 boys participated in the league.  All teams had a great year with our Team C winning there league.

Team B and Team A reached the semi finals of the cup rounds, and our Team D had an enjoyable season in their school league also.

Our 6th class boys, with a little help from some of the 5th class boys, participated in Camel Cup tournament held in St. Killian’s school.  This competition has a number of nearby schools in the tournament.  Our boys won the tournament and received the wonderful Camel Cup with our boys captain winning Player of the Tournament.  A great achievement for all the boys involved where great teamwork and determination were displayed at all times.

Morton Cup:  A cold wet day dawned on 12th June and the Morton Cup was on!  The children didn’t let the weather dampen their spirits at all and a wonderful afternoon and evening ensued.  Over 112 boys and 55 girls took part with Israel winning the boys side of things and Cyprus winning the girls.  This was our final soccer event of the year and a huge thanks to Ms. Leahy for all the organising, coaching and support she gives to all the boys and girls during the school soccer year.  Huge thanks also goes to Roisin Caddow who helped Ms. Leahy with the organisation of the Morton Cup which is a huge undertaking.

Medals, cups and special awards were presented to the children in Assembly on Friday morning to wrap up the season – well done to all!
