Activity @ Taney School Fair

On Saturday, 21st October 2017, we had lots of visitors to our Active School Stall at the Taney School Fair.

Children had to complete a very tricky quiz to test their Active School knowledge and our winners had very impressive times.

Sixth Class also organised stalls and many of these included active elements.

The stall selling sports bottles with our school’s crest was a big hit at the Fair.

We also had some fabulous active prizes for our raffle from places such as: JumpZone, Tayto Park, Celtic Sports Academy, The Sing Factory, Funky Monkeys, Leisure Plex, Rugby Tots and Prima Ballet.

Thank you to everyone for all their help and support.

The Fair 2017 – All you Need to Know

With only a few days to go until our annual School Fair, preparations are in full flow. The teachers are selling raffle tickets this week at €1 each and we have over 40 prizes including an iPad, headphones, toys, games and numerous passes and vouchers to days out, fun venues, after-school activities, restaurants, shops, and more thanks to our generous sponsors. You’re in with a chance to win a €100 Dundrum voucher in the Bluebell Motors’ Balloon-Guessing Competition, as well as hopefully enjoying the busy programme of activities. Please bring your bottles (soft drinks big or small, personal care products, etc.) to your child’s classroom this week to populate our Bottle Stall. If you’ve kindly volunteered to be on a stall on Saturday, please allow some extra time to get parking as we anticipate that it will be quite busy at the School and Parish Centre. A sincere thank you to those who offered to bake and we look forward to receiving your baked goods on the day.

Pupils versus Teachers on National Fitness Day

posted in: Active Flag, School News | 0

Taney School marked National Fitness Day, 29th September 2017, with a host of initiatives. Many physical activities were organised both in classrooms and outdoors throughout the day to celebrate physical activity. All of the children were encouraged to be active by wearing their favourite sports gear to school that day and prizes from #Be Active were distributed to all classes.

We registered on the Ireland Active website for the “Take on the Teachers” challenge as part of National Fitness Day. Eight teams of pupils and two teams of teachers took part in a dodgeball contest characterised by plenty of fun, fitness and friendly competition.

As part of the #Be Active Schools Campaign “European Week of Sport” (23rd-30th October), we commenced the “Run Around Europe” initiative. Our progress tracker, designed by 5th Class, is beside the Active School Board.

On Friday, 8th September, we welcomed the parents of the new Junior Infants to the school community. Over 50 parents met and mingled over coffee, with many new parents getting to know those with children in the school already. We were oversubscribed for the Class Rep roles and delighted to announce that Anne-Maria Hamilton, Jean Bothwell, and Michelle Keane along with Kerry-Jane Morgan, Jill Thorn and Caleb Parrow have assumed these roles for Ms Leahy and Mrs Christie’s classes respectively. Welcome everyone!

Sports Day 2017

The sun shone for the annual sporting spectacle of Taney Parish Primary School, held in Marlay Park on 2nd June. Juniors infants to 6th Class pupils showed off their athletic prowess through the sprint, relay, hoop, cup and ball, and obstacle races. The children delighted in their medals and well-earned post-race treats and the parents in the impressive display of skills and class camaraderie. Thanks to all those who volunteered and helped make Sports Day a success.
