Fun/Sponsored Walk in Marlay Park

posted in: School News | 0

We ran an art competition to choose two designs for the junior and senior sponsorship cards and our two winners came from Junior Infants and Third Class, both the youngest classes in their respective categories!  It was a really tough to choose winners from all the fantastic artwork entered, some of which you can see in this post.

Our Fun/Sponsored Walk takes place in Marlay this Thursday 19 April and we look forward to seeing you all there – full details below:

Parking: in the two back car parks off College Road (near the large playground).

Meeting/Registration Point: beside the tennis courts and shed across from the field where Sports Day is held. Each child will meet at their Class Flag and register with a PTA member/Class Rep, identified by high-vis jackets.

Arrival/Starting Times

Junior Infants should arrive no later than 5.15 for a 5.30 p.m. start.

Senior Infants should arrive no later than 5.25 for a 5.40 p.m. start.

1st Class should arrive no later than 5.35 for a 5.50 p.m. start.

2nd Class should arrive no later than 5.45 for a 6.00 p.m. start.

3rd Class should arrive no later than 6.30 for a 6.45 p.m. start.

4th Class should arrive no later than 6.35 for a 6.50 p.m. start.

6th Class should arrive no later than 6.45 for a 7.00 p.m. start.

Any pupil arriving later than their start time will have to walk with an older class, while any pupil arriving after 6.45 p.m. will not be able to walk or submit a sponsorship card and money unfortunately.

Sponsorship Monies

We would implore you not to bring any sponsorship money to the Walk itself as we will not be able to accept it then. Pupils are asked to place their completed card and money inside an envelope, seal it and return it to their teacher (check that the name and class is on the sponsorship card) by Friday, 4th May.

Housekeeping

Please ensure that your child is appropriately dressed (runners etc.) and ideally goes to the toilet before leaving the house. A small snack and drink will be provided on completion of the walk. Younger siblings are very welcome to join, as long as they’re accompanied by a parent.

School Community Gives a Dig-Out

posted in: Active Flag, School News | 0

The Taney community spirit was out in full force on Sunday afternoon as a large group of parents answered the call to help ensure safe passage for the children to school on Monday morning. Armed with shovels, brushes, and rakes, some 40 or so volunteers made their way to the school premises and, within 2 hours, had cleared the footpaths outside the school as well as the entrances to the main building and individual classrooms. A huge thank you to all those who showed up and to Perry and his digger of PDEL Construction.

Table Quiz Results

posted in: School News | 0

72 parents and friends of Taney made up the 18 teams that contested the Taney Table Quiz 2018. Resident quiz maestro Eoin Pearson tested the knowledge limits with questions of current affairs, sport, literature, geography, entertainment, history, general knowledge and the sensory music and picture rounds.

The ‘A-team’ emerged victorious, with Ross Gillanders, Matt Jones, Rob Fox and Julian Hinds, while the other winners to be congratulated were:

2nd place – The Slippery Slopes with John Armstrong, Patrick Passmore, Heather Strong & Mervyn Ellis

3rd place – AKEA with Andrew & Elaine Bowers & Karl & Alan Stewart

4th place – 4 Guinness Please with Peter Squires, Colin Woods, Patsy McCaughey & Philip Beattie

The table sales and raffle raised just shy of €1,500 and we’re extremely grateful to all those who attended and gave so generously. Our thanks also goes to parents Conor Lloyd, Elaine Platt, Ana Kerr and Colin Woods for sponsoring some of the raffle prizes. The signed Ireland rugby jersey was won by Joshua Ellis from Ms Warren’s 3rd Class, and our gratitude extends to her for organising this amazing prize.

After 4 years behind the microphone and with his son’s departure from school, Eoin is passing the baton to Ross Gillanders who has very kindly offered to be next year’s quiz connoisseur.
