In the Spring Term the Drama group was busy rehearsing in the hall for their play “Dragon Days”. They worked very hard, not only to learn their lines, but to learn songs and actions too! Here’s a sneak peak of their rehearsals.

School Community Gives a Dig-Out

The Taney community spirit was out in full force on Sunday afternoon as a large group of parents answered the call to help ensure safe passage for the children to school on Monday morning. Armed with shovels, brushes, and rakes, some 40 or so volunteers made their way to the school premises and, within 2 hours, had cleared the footpaths outside the school as well as the entrances to the main building and individual classrooms. A huge thank you to all those who showed up and to Perry and his digger of PDEL Construction.

Actively Preparing for Christmas

The pupils at Taney Parish Primary school have been very busy getting organised for Christmas. There is lots of singing, actions and drama going on and there is a lovely atmosphere in the school.

In assembly, First Class taught, not only the words of their carol, but also the actions to everyone in the Junior Assembly. Thank you First Class!

The children walked to the church for Carol Service rehearsals and for their performance. The local garda was very kind to direct traffic for both the Junior and Senior Carol Services so we could all cross the road safely.

Activity @ Taney School Fair

On Saturday, 21st October 2017, we had lots of visitors to our Active School Stall at the Taney School Fair.

Children had to complete a very tricky quiz to test their Active School knowledge and our winners had very impressive times.

Sixth Class also organised stalls and many of these included active elements.

The stall selling sports bottles with our school’s crest was a big hit at the Fair.

We also had some fabulous active prizes for our raffle from places such as: JumpZone, Tayto Park, Celtic Sports Academy, The Sing Factory, Funky Monkeys, Leisure Plex, Rugby Tots and Prima Ballet.

Thank you to everyone for all their help and support.

Pupils versus Teachers on National Fitness Day

posted in: Active Flag, School News | 0

Taney School marked National Fitness Day, 29th September 2017, with a host of initiatives. Many physical activities were organised both in classrooms and outdoors throughout the day to celebrate physical activity. All of the children were encouraged to be active by wearing their favourite sports gear to school that day and prizes from #Be Active were distributed to all classes.

We registered on the Ireland Active website for the “Take on the Teachers” challenge as part of National Fitness Day. Eight teams of pupils and two teams of teachers took part in a dodgeball contest characterised by plenty of fun, fitness and friendly competition.

As part of the #Be Active Schools Campaign “European Week of Sport” (23rd-30th October), we commenced the “Run Around Europe” initiative. Our progress tracker, designed by 5th Class, is beside the Active School Board.
