This Easter, the Active School Committee designed a wonderful Easter Number Hunt and Obstacle Course. Both 2nd Classes had a great time searching for their numbers inside the eggs which were hidden around the playground. When they found their number, they moved on to the obstacle course. Thank you very much to the Active School Committee for designing the obstacle course and for helping the children through various sections of it! Check out some of our photos which show the Active School Committee preparing the course and also capture 2nd Class having an exciting time completing it!
Sixth Class have been very active in recent weeks, having fun at the Sponsored Walk in Marlay, starting the first week of their Cycling Course. In the classroom too…painting Salvador Dali themed “Spring Birds” and performing a Jackson Five “I Want You Back” inspired drama!
We’ve been very lucky in Taney to have great coaches from Ballinteer St. John’s GAA Club to come and show us some skills this term. Fourth, fifth and sixth classes were also treated to a day of cricket skills from Leinster Cricket Club in Rathmines.
As our active school slogan says…”Don’t delay, be active today!”
On Thursday, 19th April, 272 pupils along with their parents, younger siblings, grandparents and canine companions replaced the recently-required snowboots for shades as they participated in the Fun / Sponsored Walk at Marlay Park. It was a great turnout and Ms Blain’s 1st Class was particularly impressive, with 26 children present. Such was the positive energy that it was impossible to judge best class spirit so the good news is that all of the classes are being rewarded with homework passes. Thanks so much to all of the parent and teacher volunteers who helped with registrations and ensured that everyone was kept in tow and on track along the route. The completed sponsorship card and monies can be returned to your child’s teacher by Friday, 4th May.
Everyone in Fourth Class has been having great fun over the past few weeks! We have been very active with Movement Breaks, Adventure Trails and Walk for Water on Your Funky Feet! Check out some of our funky shoe designs.
During February and March, the Active School Committee conducted a “What Club Are You In?” survey. We compiled the results and they are displayed on the Active School Notice Board. We realised that the children are involved in numerous forms of physical activity including: Gymnastics, Badminton, Rugby, Irish Dancing, Ballet, Soccer, Taekwondo, Horse Riding, Hockey, Swimming, Skiing and much much more.
In the Spring Term the Drama group was busy rehearsing in the hall for their play “Dragon Days”. They worked very hard, not only to learn their lines, but to learn songs and actions too! Here’s a sneak peak of their rehearsals.
The Taney community spirit was out in full force on Sunday afternoon as a large group of parents answered the call to help ensure safe passage for the children to school on Monday morning. Armed with shovels, brushes, and rakes, some 40 or so volunteers made their way to the school premises and, within 2 hours, had cleared the footpaths outside the school as well as the entrances to the main building and individual classrooms. A huge thank you to all those who showed up and to Perry and his digger of PDEL Construction.
