Senior Infants have had a active few months, taking part in various school initatives; Walk for Water, National Fitness Day, and a fun visit from Olympian Gymnastic Club for Active School Week. Don’t delay, be active today!
Our Irish Dancing Display was held on Thursday evening last week and the children from 1st to 6th classes gave us a great show of all the wonderful dances they have learned this year. We had a special presentation at the end of the evening for Mrs. Meadhbh McEvoy who is retiring after 40 years teaching dancing here in Taney…..thank you Mrs. McEvoy!
Active School Week culminated with our annual Sports Day which took place in Marlay Park on Friday morning. A big thank you to the dozens of parents and teachers who helped to organise and coordinate the event, and to Paul Finlay, Liam Neary, Nigel Macken and Manfred Davies who helped with set-up and transport. We were lucky to have the bulk of the races take place in dry weather and sunshine. The brave boys and girls of 3rd to 6th classes ran their relay races in a tropical downpour which was a wet end to an otherwise lovely day!! Special thanks to all teachers and PTA members who helped with a very wet tidy up at the end of the day.
Active School week took place last week, 28th May to 1st June. Everyone was encouraged to wear their favourite active gear in order to take part fully in Active School Week. Coaches from Olympian Gymnastics and Irish Ultimate Frisbee provided taster sessions for all classes throughout the week. We also had 10@10 Movement Breaks, Active Diaries, County Colours Day, Whole School Macarena, Active Travel, Active Homework and much much more.
6th Class devised and guided their Junior Infant buddies round a circuit of 8 different bases! All the more enjoyable in glorious sunshine! 6th class and Junior Infants also enjoyed 10@10 together during Active School Week.
Brave First Class practising their forward rolls and balancing!
The children from 2nd and 3rd classes showed off all the skills they had learned this year at their Swimming Display held Loughlinstown Swimming Pool last week. They back to school wearing their shiny medals!
Fifth class enjoyed a movement break inside due to the rain. We danced along to a GoNoodle video!
In PE we practised balancing in pairs during our gymnastics lesson.
Well done 5th Class!!
In Ms. Hanbidge’s class we held a talent show recently. It was all organised by our resident class band “The Creeps” who had the idea, made the application forms, completed the running order, judged and even bought treats for the classes. They are excellent event planners. Well done to our fabulous gymnasts, magicians, dancers, actors, musicians and singers!
