Boys Hockey Update

Although the season sadly came to a premature end the boys made fantastic progress working with their coaches to develop new skills and push their game on.  We had lots of kids trying out new tricks and some even braved putting on the goalie gear….and stayed upright!

Due to the high standard and numbers of boys playing senior hockey this season we had two 11-a-side teams this year playing in Senior School Leagues U13A and U13C.  Our A team, after playing at the highest level in 1st year hockey, qualified for the U13B semi-final; narrowly losing 1-0 to Sutton Park.  Taney B team topped their section of the U13C league winning a semi-final place with a potential final place!

Our 8-a-side teams were at the top of their leagues and had qualified for finals day.  The A’s were beaten by Whitechurch 2-1 in a nail-biting match.  As both teams were on equal points after the match Whitechurch were deemed league winners but the A’s were due to have a final v’s Whitechurch for another bite at cherry playing for a gold medal.  The B’s 8-a-side won league outright and were also due to play on finals day; they were doing really well before the season had to be halted.  Avril met some of the boys in Marlay to hand them their Leinster Hockey medals!  The 8-a-side C team gained fantastic experience competing against top 6th class teams in their league, the coaches were delighted with their gain in confidence and maturity.

Two of the boys were jointly awarded Player of the Year trophies this year, in recognition of all their hard work and team spirit.  Well done to them both.  Our A team goalie also had a fantastic season in goals and saved our skin many times.  We will miss all our graduating sixth classers and we’re so sorry we didn’t get to give you a good send off in person, please keep up your hockey and we wish you all the very best for your future!
