Boys 8-a-side Hockey Cup Finals

The two Boys 8-a-side hockey teams played in the cup finals in Wesley College on Thursday, having both won their leagues.

Fifth Class team played a team from St. Kilian’s who fought bravely, especially the younger players. Taney won 8-1, winning the Leinster Schools Hockey U12 Cup.

Our Sixth Class team played against St. Andrew’s in a tight contest which ended 2-2 at full time and had to go to penalty flicks.  The final score left St Andrews victorious but our boys are very proud of their achievement and rightly so.

Sixth class walked to Wesley to support the boys’ hockey final.  The classes did the walk as part of the Green and Active Flag collaboration, Active Travel/Funky Feet and Walk for Water Day.

Walking for Water

The children took part in the Walk for Water on World Water Day this Thursday and they wore blue to school to symbolise water.

What would it be like to balance a container on your head and walk 6km a day to get water?

In Junior Infants the children balanced books on their heads while walking.  In First Class the children tried balancing beanbags while walking in our yard.  You have to be very careful and it takes a long time!!  We needed to concentrate.  We held out our hands to help our balance.

Engineer’s Week

For a (slightly delayed) Engineer’s Week Ms Hanbidge’s class were challenged to make a bridge at home.  With very little information to go on it was time to get creative.  Our criteria were as follows:

It should be at least 40 cm long.  It should be able to support 50g.  It should be free standing.  It should be made from recyclable materials.  A toy car should be able to travel across it.

These structures were excellent and showed some super creative and logical thinking.  They surpassed all expectations, we may have some civil engineers in the making here.  Well done 5th class!
