Sixth Class have been busy getting their classrooms ready for Christmas!
In recent weeks they have also completed some clay models.
The first weekend of December was a buzz with festive activity, with over 60 parents and teachers heralding the start of the Christmas season at the Goat Grill. There was plenty of yuletide cheer and fun on the dancefloor courtesy of Dave, the dancing DJ.
The following day, the PTA ran a children’s clothes stall at the Parish Bazaar and donated about 20 bags of leftovers to the NCBI’s Bag for Blindness campaign thereafter. Many thanks to those who generously contributed! The event raised a total of €9,700 for several charitable causes including the missions, homelessness, and cancer research.
Later that week, we distributed 7,010 cards to the children who participated in the Christmas Cards for Schools project, so a very well done to them on the superb creativity shown and a big thank you to the parents for supporting this fundraising effort.
Junior Infants and Sixth Class enjoyed some Halloween fun together, with games and face painting. Junior Infants painted a beautiful rainbow fish display in October.
Here’s some recent pictures of our brilliant Bronze Age creations!
Our school choir performed for the first time this year at the Taney Parish Christmas Bazaar on Saturday 2nd December. They lined the staircase and sang as the Bazaar opened at 10am. People commented so positively on this lovely festive welcome. Many thanks to Eleanor, our choir teacher, for preparing everything so well and for giving her time on the day to conduct.
In Assembly recently Mrs Carpenter congratulated our Active School Challenge Winner and Active School Quiz Winner.
Third class visited the Hugh Lane Gallery and really enjoyed a very interesting tour. We concentrated on impressionist artists, Claude Monet in particular. We also heard the story of Harry Clarke’s stained glass window. We spent some time sketching our favourite pieces.
Finally, you can’t visit the Hugh Lane without checking out Francis Bacon’s extremely untidy studio! A great morning was had by all!
Back at school again we had a chance to try reproduce some of the works of art we saw.
